Veterans deserve a special place in our hearts. Their commitment, dedication and sacrifice have protected our country time and again. But now it’s time for Veterans to take care of themselves.



Veterans face unique problems with their oral health. According to a recent study, 42% of Veterans have had gum problems or bone loss around their teeth, and 56% have had tooth decay. It’s important to get regular cleanings and exams to prevent any serious problems from occurring. “Veterans cannot be healthy without good oral health,” the study concluded.

Evidence shows a strong relationship between oral health and overall health. Oral health issues are linked to such chronic conditions as diabetes, osteoporosis and heart disease. Not taking care of your teeth and gums can make these conditions worse, and sometimes dentists can detect health issues through a simple dental exam.

Protect your teeth with a VADIP plan

Regular cleanings and dental exams are essential to maintain oral health and prevent more serious problems from occurring. Veterans who enroll in VA health care can purchase a dental plan under the Veterans Affairs Dental Insurance Program (VADIP).

Due to an expansion of the PACT Act in 2024, millions more are eligible for VADIP. Veterans who were exposed to toxic substances and served in the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, Iraq, Afghanistan, the Global War on Terror or any other combat zone after 9/11 are eligible to enroll in VA health care. Veterans who were never deployed but were exposed to toxins or hazards while training or on active duty in the U.S. are also eligible.
